Is it ok to take plaquenil before surgery

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Does anyone know if you can take plaquenil while you are having surgery? You know, I mean do you have to stop taking it prior to having surgery?I'm thinking about asking my doctor if I can try it again it has been 10 years, but I might also be facing surgery so just thought I would ask. Finally, my rheumatologist recommended that I stop taking the drug altogether.” Utterback’s rheumatologist also referred her to neuro-ophthalmologist David Katz, MD, in Bethesda, Md. “We don’t know which patients might develop Plaquenil retinopathy, but the patient often can see it before the doctor can,” he says. Nov 12, 2009 It takes a really long time for the Plaquenil to kick in. It may even take a year. Mine didn't start working until I was on it for 8 months and I take more than you do. I take 200 mg twice a day. I initially started at 800mg a day then dropped it to 400 mg a day. Please don't give up, you will have good days and bad days.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

You might receive ‘helpful’ advice from well-meaning friends and family, telling you to take painkillers before your root canal treatment to help with the pain. Firstly, it’s important to note that you’ll be given anesthetic before the surgery, so you won’t require any additional numbing to the area. St. John’s wart please do not take 14 days prior to surgery, Vitamin E, Multi-Vitamins if it also contains Vitamin E. If you are having a cervical or lumbar spinal fusion surgery you will not be able to take NSAIDS or medications containing Aspirin for about 3 months until your doctor tells you that your fusion appears solid. Oct 24, 2014 I took my last remicaid infusion in September, last methotrexate about the same time, and will stop taking plaquenil one month before surgery. Needless to say, I'm taking pain meds in order to sleep at night, but it's all going to be worth it when I've lost 100 lbs! mom2kandh
